Recent news articles have been focusing on the anti-aging benefits of hyaluronic acid which is commonly referred to as Hyaluron or HA. Hyaluronic Acid is found in abundance in our bodies when we are born but as we get older the levels decrease. Scientists believe the decline in Hyaluronic Acid in our body is responsible for the aging process.

Hyaluronic Acid production occurs in the deep layers of our skin called the dermis. Scientists have speculated that is helps keep skin smooth because it has excellent water retention capabilities. In recent studies they have also found that Hyaluronic Acid helps repair wounds and other skin problems. Hyaluronic Acid appears to also be responsible for maintaining the bodies collagen levels. Collagen depletion in the body is considered by scientists to be one of the leading causes of poor skin tone and elasticity of the skin. Both of these are also causes that are often listed with the visual aging process.

An additional fact that surprises many people is the fact that Hyaluronic Acid makes up almost eighty percent of the human eye. Hyaluronic Acid is believed to act as a shock absorber to the retina to help prevent trauma from occurring to the eye.

Hyaluronic Acid is also proving beneficial in helping lubricate the joints of arthritis sufferers. Hyaluronic Acid injections into the joints have shown positive results for those with arthritis or those who have recently undergone joint replacement.

Recently a Japan pharmaceutical company has been developing an oral form of Hyaluronic Acid that can be used to help fight the aging process. In tests so far half of a thousand individuals who take the pill have seen smoother skin and improved eyesight.
